Business in the Twenties

We’re officially in the first decade of the 21st century that has a common name. For 20 years, we’ve missed the ring of saying the 90’s. The early 2000’s and the twenty tens both lacked a simple way to describe the decades, but fret no longer, we’re back.

2020 is going to be a historic year for a thousand reasons. None more obvious that the novel corona virus shutting down the world for months. Owning and running a business hasn’t has this much uncertainty since the Great Depression. Death’s from the virus are well over 100k and trending up. Mask wearing has become mandatory and controversial. Unemployment hit 14%, businesses were forced to close their doors, furlough and lay off employees. Adapting on the fly has been a new type of challenge as orders change almost daily, top medical advisors are in disagreement with politicians, and employees have 600 reasons not come back.

Getting back to “normal” is more a fantasy than reality at this point. Having a system in place to get close, though, is doable. Getting your team on the same page, instilling new operating procedures, finding ways to cut waste and increase margins- all options that will increase a businesses durability in uncertain times.
